Our Specialised Services

We offer diagnostic and screening services that support early detection and timely management of gastrointestinal and colorectal conditions. Our services include:

Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy allows direct visualisation of the colon and rectum, helping doctors detect polyps, inflammation and early signs of colorectal cancer before symptoms worsen.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy examines the upper digestive tract to identify the cause of symptoms such as pain, reflux or bleeding, enabling accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Colorectal Cancer Screening

Screening helps identify and remove precancerous growths early and detect colorectal cancer at a stage when treatment options are more effective, and outcomes are improved.

How Dangerous and Likely is Colorectal Cancer?

Colorectal cancer is the most common cancer in Singapore. It ranks first among men and second among women, after breast cancer.

Despite how common it is, colorectal cancer is also one of the most preventable cancers. In many cases, it begins as small growths known as polyps in the colon. These polyps can be detected during a colonoscopy and are often removed during the same procedure.

Colorectal Practice Colonoscopy

What Is a Colonoscopy?

A colonoscopy is a procedure that allows doctors to examine the inside of the colon and rectum in real time. During the procedure, a colonoscope, which is a thin flexible tube with a light and camera at its tip, is gently inserted through the rectum and guided through the colon. The camera transmits images to a monitor so the doctor can examine the intestinal lining for abnormalities such as polyps, ulcers, inflammation or cancer.

If polyps are detected, they can usually be removed immediately using specialised instruments passed through the colonoscope. In some situations, the doctor may also take a small tissue sample known as a biopsy for laboratory analysis.

These steps help confirm the diagnosis and guide the next stage of treatment if required.

Am I at Risk and Should I Get Screened?

Many people wonder whether they need colorectal cancer screening. The answer often depends on personal risk factors, lifestyle and family history.

Risk factors for colorectal cancer include:

Aged 50 and
above

Family history of
colon cancer

Personal history of polyps
or colon cancer

Being overweight
or obese

Heavy smoker
and drinker

Knowing your risk is the first step towards prevention. A professional assessment can help determine the most appropriate screening plan for you.

When Should You See a Colorectal Cancer Surgeon?

Early screening matters even when no symptoms are present. Because colorectal cancer often develops silently, regular colonoscopy plays an important role in early detection and prevention.

If you notice any of the following, it is advisable to consult a colorectal specialist:

A persistent change in bowel habits and the nature of the stool

Blood in stool or bleeding from the rectum

Sustained abdominal discomfort

Unexplained weight loss and fatigue

If you experience any of these symptoms, a detailed evaluation can help identify the cause and allow early treatment.
